What we find in Ashmore homes
A large share of Ashmore’s houses are lowset brick homes on decent blocks, built in the era when a house had a handful of power points per room and no air conditioning. Many still have their original switchboard, or one that has been patched over the years. Ceramic fuses, a single safety switch covering only the power circuits, or none at all, are things we still see regularly.
None of that means the house is unsafe on day one, but it does mean the electrical system was never designed for split systems in every bedroom, a pool pump, an induction cooktop and a car charger in the garage. When owners start adding those, the old board is usually the first thing that needs attention.

Renovating an older Ashmore house
Plenty of Ashmore owners are renovating rather than moving, opening up kitchens, converting garages or adding a rear deck. Once walls are open, it is the cheapest time to replace tired cabling, move switches and add circuits. We like to be involved early, before the kitchen is ordered, so appliance locations, lighting and power are planned together instead of worked around later.
If the existing wiring is old rubber-insulated or cloth-covered cable, we’ll tell you plainly and explain the options. Sometimes a partial rewire of the renovated area is enough. Smoke alarms and rentals
Ashmore has a good number of rental houses and duplexes. Under Queensland law, every domestic dwelling will need photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms in each bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms and on every storey from 1 January 2027. Rentals and homes being sold already need to comply. We install hardwired interconnected alarms and issue the paperwork, and we work with owners and agents on rental property electrical jobs.
Small commercial work around Ashmore
Ashmore’s shopping centres and the businesses along Southport Nerang Road mean steady small commercial work too: tenancy changes, lighting upgrades, extra circuits for equipment and fault calls. We keep disruption low by scheduling around trading hours where we can.
