The salt air problem
If you live within a few streets of the beach at Kingscliff, you already know what salt does to a car. It does the same to electrical fittings. The most common things we replace here are:
- Outdoor power points with rusted covers and green terminals inside
- Wall and eave lights that have corroded, filled with water or lost their seals
- Meter box hinges, locks and internal fixings that have rusted through
- Ceiling fans on verandahs and balconies with seized bearings and rusted blades
The fix isn’t just a like-for-like swap. We choose fittings rated for coastal exposure, use the right glands and sealing, and think about placement, such as tucking a power point under an eave rather than on an exposed wall. Older beach houses
Behind the beachfront, parts of Kingscliff still have original fibro and weatherboard cottages from the town’s holiday days. Many have had additions over the years, and the wiring shows it. We often find old porcelain fuses, no earth on some circuits, and power run through ceilings in ways that wouldn’t pass today.
Before you renovate, or if you’ve just bought one of these homes, an electrical safety inspection is a sensible first step. We test the wiring, check the switchboard and earthing, and give you a written list of what needs doing now and what can wait. If the home is fibro, we take care around any material that might contain asbestos and won’t drill or cut it without the right precautions.
New homes and renovations
New houses and knock-down rebuilds are common in Kingscliff, Casuarina and Salt, and on the growing edges of town towards Cudgen. For these jobs we work with builders and owners on:
- Lighting plans that suit high ceilings and open living areas
- Switchboards with room for solar, a battery and an EV charger
- Data cabling and TV and data points for working from home
- Outdoor kitchens, pools and landscape lighting built to handle salt
Cafés, shops and apartments
Marine Parade and the surrounding streets are full of cafés, restaurants and small shops. Commercial kitchens draw a lot of power and can’t afford to lose it at the breakfast rush. We handle fit-outs, extra circuits for new equipment, and fault finding when a board keeps tripping. For apartment buildings, we look after common area lighting, emergency lighting tests and car park power under our strata electrical service.
NSW paperwork and booking
Kingscliff work is carried out under the appropriate NSW licence and every job gets a NSW Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. If your home needs smoke alarms, keep in mind NSW rules differ from Queensland, with the minimum being at least one working alarm on each level. And in summer, remember the Tweed is on daylight saving: we’ll book your job in local time.
