Logan’s mix of housing
Logan’s homes cover a wide span of ages. Around Logan Central, Woodridge, Kingston and Slacks Creek there are plenty of homes from the 1970s and 80s, many of them rentals. Further out, growth corridors have brought large new estates with modern homes built to current standards. The electrical work is quite different at each end.
Older homes: what we usually find
In the established suburbs, the jobs that come up again and again are:
- Old switchboards with ceramic fuses or only one safety switch
- Circuits overloaded by air conditioners and appliances the house was never wired for
- Damaged outlets and switches after years of tenancy wear
- Smoke alarms that do not meet current Queensland rules
A switchboard upgrade with RCD protection on every circuit fixes the most important safety gap. From there, we can add circuits and replace worn fittings as needed.
Rentals and property managers
Logan has a large rental market, and landlords carry clear electrical obligations. Smoke alarms must be photoelectric (AS 3786-2014), interconnected, and either hardwired or powered by a 10-year non-removable lithium battery, in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms and on every storey. These have been required for each new lease since 1 January 2022.
We work with property managers on smoke alarm upgrades, repairs between tenancies and electrical safety inspections. Clear reports and photos go back to the agency after each job.
New homes in the growth estates
Owners in newer Logan estates are usually adding to a sound installation rather than fixing an old one. Common requests:
- EV chargers in the garage
- Extra power and lighting for alfresco areas and patios
- Split system air conditioning in bedrooms that were not included in the build
- TV, data and home office points
- Sheds and granny flats with their own submains
We check the board and supply before adding significant load, so a new charger or air conditioner does not trip the main switch.
Business and community buildings
Logan’s commercial work includes shops, medical centres, childcare centres, trade businesses and community facilities. We provide fit-outs, lighting upgrades, maintenance, test and tag and emergency lighting testing. For childcare and education sites, we plan work around operating hours and child safety requirements.
Storms and flooding
Parts of Logan near the Logan River and its creeks have flooded in past events. If water has reached your switchboard, outlets or appliances, do not turn the power back on until a licensed electrician has checked the installation.
