A suburb of family homes
Most of Helensvale is made up of established estates of single and double storey homes, many with pools and covered outdoor areas. The houses are not old by Queensland standards, but many are now 25 to 40 years old, and families use far more electricity than the original designers planned for.
We see a steady run of the same kinds of jobs: adding air conditioners to bedrooms, extra power in kitchens and home offices, replacing old downlights, and upgrading switchboards that no longer have room for new circuits.
Is your switchboard keeping up?
Homes built in the 1980s and 1990s often have boards with a single safety switch protecting power circuits only, or with a handful of RCDs shared across many circuits. When one trips, half the house goes dark. A modern board with individual RCBOs means a fault on one circuit only affects that circuit.

Working from home
With so many Helensvale residents working from home at least part of the week, study and office setups have become a common job. That usually means extra double power points, a dedicated circuit if there is a lot of equipment, better task lighting, and a wired data point so video calls do not depend on patchy wi-fi. Keeping cool
Summers in the northern Gold Coast are hot and humid, and air conditioning is the most common big addition we wire. Parts of Helensvale sit close to the Coombabah wetlands and creek system, where humidity is high and storms can bring heavy downpours. Outdoor power points, garden lights and pool equipment in these areas take a beating. If a safety switch starts tripping after rain, it usually means moisture has found its way into an outdoor circuit, and it is worth tracking down before it gets worse.
