Canal homes of a certain age
Much of Runaway Bay’s housing was built in the 1970s and 1980s, then extended and renovated over the following decades. That history shows up in the electrical system. It is common to open a switchboard and find a mix of old and new equipment, circuits added without labels and safety switch protection that covers some circuits but not all.

Pontoons, jetties and the water’s edge
Power at the water’s edge is one of the most common jobs we do in Runaway Bay, and one of the most important to get right. Pontoon lighting, outlets for boat charging and boat lifts sit right above salt water. Cables are exposed to movement, UV and salt, and fittings corrode quickly.
We use marine-suitable cable, fittings and enclosures, make sure outdoor circuits have their own RCD protection, and look closely at how the cable crosses from land to pontoon. If your pontoon lights have stopped working or the safety switch trips when it rains, there is often corrosion or water in a joint that needs attention.
Pools and outdoor areas
Most canal homes here have a pool and a covered outdoor area facing the water. Storms and the Broadwater
Summer storms roll across the Broadwater and hit Runaway Bay hard. Lightning, wind-blown rain and occasional tidal flooding in low spots all affect electrical systems. After a storm, if power will not come back on, lights flicker or you smell burning, turn off the main switch if it is safe to do so and call an electrician. The marina precinct and Runaway Bay’s shopping centres have a mix of hospitality, marine businesses, retail and services. We provide maintenance, lighting, fit-out work and test and tag for small and medium businesses, scheduling around trade.
