Three different Currumbins
When someone calls us about a job in Currumbin, our first question is usually which part. A unit near the beach, a house on the hill and an acreage block up the valley have very little in common electrically.
Near the beach and the creek mouth
Down by Currumbin Creek and the beach, properties are a mix of older houses, low-rise units and newer homes. Salt air here is heavy, especially on anything facing the ocean. Outdoor lights, power points, garage door motors, air conditioner isolators and meter boxes all suffer. We replace corroded fittings with gear better suited to the conditions and seal it properly, which is the only way to stop the same fault coming back each year.
Units and small apartment blocks also need body corporate maintenance, including common area lighting, emergency lighting where required and repairs after storms. Our strata electrical service covers this.
Hillside homes
The streets climbing the hills behind the beach have homes built across several decades, many on sloping blocks with split levels and under-house areas. Common jobs here include:
- Upgrading older switchboards and adding safety switches
- Lighting for stairs, paths and decks on steep blocks
- Ceiling fans for homes that catch the sea breeze
- Extra circuits for air conditioning in upstairs rooms
Currumbin Valley acreage
Head up the valley and the properties become rural: acreage homes, small farms, horse properties and holiday rentals among the bush. This is a different kind of electrical work.
Long runs and outbuildings
Sheds, workshops, studios and second dwellings are often a long way from the main switchboard. We size sub-main cables to AS/NZS 3008 so voltage drop doesn’t leave you with dim lights and struggling motors at the far end.
Pumps and water
Many valley properties rely on bore or creek pumps and water tanks. Pump circuits, pressure switches and float controls fail from age, lightning and moisture, and when they go you have no water. We can diagnose and repair these, and upgrade tired circuits.
Storms and lightning
The valley gets hit hard by summer storms, with trees down, surges through equipment and outages that last longer than in town.
